Controlling Operation Marion: Pipe Work
Controlling Operation Bartlett: Sub-Grade Treatment
Fraction of Day Workable: 10/10
Hi 80 Lo 50
Weather AM Sunny PM Sunny
Woodruff continued with storm pipe and structure work in the Marian section. At the weekly progress meeting a solution was finalized that resolved the electric duct bank issue on Marian at the alley by MarMain Apartments. A new manhole (Str. 124a) will be placed in line with Str. 124 and 125 at Line PR-A Sta. 22+53.2. 261' of 12" pipe will be run from the manhole west and connected to existing manhole 237. Revised drawings and a field directive for the work were provided to Rieth-Riley in the afternoon.
Rieth-Riley had a concrete crew which poured the outisde lane on the Bartlett roundabout going southbound from Sta. 16+50.00 to approximately Sta. 15+00. Aggregate grading was completed in the Bartlett roundabout section.
Robert Henry was removing light poles from the west side of Michigan between Madison and LaSalle.
Indiana Earth continued grading on Marian and had a one man crew doing removals on the west side of Michigan between Madison and LaSalle. Removals continued on the west side of Main St. under the railroad tracks at Bronson. Grading was conducted on the south side of the Bartlett roundabout, and a large AEP vault was found on the east side of Michigan south of the intersection. The concrete slab on the top of the vault is 24" thick and is currently to high and interfering with grade. On Monday 6" will be taken off of the concrete slab so concrete curb can be correctly placed. A one man crew was also doing backfill work on the North side of Bartlett between Michigan and Riverside.
The weekly progress meeting was held this morning with representatives from the City, Rieth-Riley, and utilities. Meeting minutes are posted below.

The Weeks up Coming
Events/Schedule
·
Update: This past week, Reith Riley has continued
removals of curb and pavement around South and Bronson Streets. They are about halfway done with pipe work at
the Marion St roundabout.
·
Upcoming:
Next week, they plan to begin sod and irrigation at the Bartlett
roundabout. Grading will continue at the
Marion St roundabout with stone to follow.
Removals on the west side of Main and east side of St. Joseph St between
LaSalle and Colfax will begin on Monday.
Utility Relocation Issues:
AEP: AEP has received a
work order to adjust the lid to the sidewalk vault in the southeast quadrant of
the Bartlett intersection and they are on schedule to get that completed. They are awaiting a work order to takedown existing
street lights between LaSalle and Ewing ahead of Reith Riley’s removal crews.
Robert Henry: Robert Henry is finishing up their work at the
intersection of Main and Western and they plan to come back north to complete
work at the intersection of Marion and Main next week. Jim said that he hopes his crews will be
completely finished by the first week of July.
NIPSCO/InfraSource: Brian with InfraSource stated that most
pipes going into the Columbia Court area have been installed. They are looking to pour concrete in Columbia
Court starting next week. Regarding
their work downtown, Brian’s crews finished crossing Main earlier this week. The existing 8” main is now fully retired
from the Oyster Bar all the way up to the Masonic Temple. Today they are patching all of their holes
and removing the temporary plates.
Comcast: Jay didn’t show, but Comcast is off of the pole at
Chippewa. Regarding their lines on the
pole on Marion St east of Michigan, it is looking as if Reith Riley will have
to hold the pole so that Comcast can complete their work after Reith Riley’s
crews have passed through.
US Signal: Still on the pole
at Chippewa. They have been contacted and plan on being off the pole late Friday.
AT&T:
AT&T was a no show. There
aren’t any issues at this time.
Water Dept.: Ed relayed that
he 8” insert valves for Main St have been installed. Ed is going to talk with Ty (JMS Building)
regarding a 6” domestic tap going into the JMS building on Main St. It came up that the Water Department is
providing valve boxes for adjusting to grade and Ed will get a count regarding
how many require adjustment. Emily from
the downtown customer service building wanted to emphasize the importance of
advanced notice when it comes to blocking access to the building.
INDOT: Scott and Michael with INDOT requested that all changes to
traffic control be communicated to INDOT so that they can update their website
with alternate routes for the traveling public. A meeting with Nathan Butts
will be set up to discuss the QC/QA Asphalt.
Transpo: Michael wondered when he might expect Reith Riley to close
the access drive to the Transpo lot and construct the temporary access drive on
South St. Though Tony didn’t have a
definitive answer, he said the temporary drive will probably be put in sometime
next week.
Metronet: Metronet’s conduit at the Bartlett intersection was
lowered another 6” today to make grade.
Ben plans to cut over at Marion St on Monday (6/6) and Tuesday (6/7)
nights. He said Metronet will be
completely out of the way by Wednesday (6/8).
MCI : Quentin relayed that MCI is now down working on Main St and
will finish patching their holes this afternoon. MCI is going to coordinate the relocation of
their conduit on Wayne St going west of Main with Reith Riley to ensure they
clear the new structures that are being placed.

Submittals (List
at Meeting):
Action Items
1. QC/QA HMA: INDOT has questions regarding the testing of
QC/QA HMA. I will set up a meeting with
Roger and INDOT to discuss this further.
Corbitt relayed that the City’s goal is to develop the streetscape. Therefore, it would be best to not have to
place patches all over the brand new street due to INDOT testing.
2.
Redesign
on Mich/Marion: Reith Riley
discovered they will have to drop one line connecting the four new structures
to go under an existing duct bank.
They’ll then tap back into the line at the intersection of Marion and
Michigan.
3. Barricades: Reith Riley was reminded to get on Indiana
Earth about closing barricades when they are finished working for the day.
4. RFI
#4 Permeable Block: The response
letter that Reith Riley is crafting is in the hands of Scotts Boss.
5. Side
Walk Closures: Reith Riley
was reminded to get sidewalk closed signs, they informed the City they had just
got several new signs.
6.
Concrete
Joint Sealant: Scott would like to
see a spec for the “Crum Rubber” sealant that was decided on so that it can be
priced. Roger replied that he’ll peruse
the MDOT State Standards to see if Michigan has a spec not included in the
INDOT Standards.
7.
Demo
Work at Chippewa: Demolition on the houses at Chippewa is scheduled to
begin on Monday (6/6), but due to all of the other removals taking place at
that time, Tony sounded unsure whether or not demolition will actually take
place.
8.
Status
of Signal Changes: This issue was resolved during the meeting. Structure Point will prepare a table of materials
needed for the signal changes today so that Reith Riley can place their order
as soon as possible. Later, probably
sometime late next week, Structure Point will provide an official revision
detailing all of the signal improvements.
9.
Revised
Schedule: Scott said that he would
get Reith Riley’s revised schedule sent out.
Reith Riley Construction
Concerns/Questions:
·
Looking forward, Tony is worried that many of
the new structures being placed at the intersections in the downtown area will
need to be relocated due to existing utilities.
Roger said he will be on site to make immediate decisions regarding
structure placement so that Rieth Riley isn’t held up.
