The Weeks up Coming
Events/Schedule
·
Update: This past week, Rieth-Riley closed the
intersections of Main & Colfax and Main & Jefferson so that pipe and
structure work could begin in the downtown area. Also in the downtown area, the west side of
Main near Bronson Street was graded and stone was laid. Curbs and crosswalks were poured at the
Marion roundabout and forms for the inner walls of the Bartlett roundabout were
set. Rieth-Riley also began paving the
first half of the inner roundabout at Chippewa.
Paving of this roundabout is expected to be completed by next week.
·
Upcoming:
Next week, Rieth-Riley plans to pour the inner walls of the Bartlett roundabout
and begin HMA paving in the area of the Marion roundabout. When structure and pipe work is completed at
Colfax Street, the street will re-open and the intersection of Main &
Washington will close for pipe work to be done in this area. Rieth-Riley plans to begin pouring curb in
the downtown area beginning next week and they will begin placing forms for
concrete pavement on the west side of Main near Bronson Street at the start of
the week. At Chippewa, they plan to
continue paving the roundabout.
Utility Relocation Issues:
AEP: Tony is still working
with James of Robert Henry to coordinate street light removals. So far, AEP and Robert Henry are caught up on
removals on Main and St. Joseph Streets.
As we near the date for flipping to the east side of the road, Tony will
give AEP and Robert Henry a heads up so that they can continue to move ahead of
removals.
AEP line down on the SE corner of
Main & Chippewa. Rich talked with
Tony Macias about a resolution to keep the pole out of the sidewalk. They will
meet after words on site to get the problem resolved.
Robert Henry: There was no
one from Robert Henry at the meeting today.
NIPSCO/InfraSource: NIPSCO finished their work at the
intersection of Main & Washington this week. They have work scheduled on one final
intersection, Main & Jefferson, scheduled for 7/18. At the Oyster Bar, the new service was
activated and the meter was moved on Thursday (6/30). Also on Thursday, NIPSCO was able to retire
the service to the JMS Building. The
City requested that NIPSCO remove the pile of concrete they left at the corner
of Lafayette & Lasalle. They also
requested that a permanent patch be placed on the sidewalk on Lafayette near
the bank and that the sidewalk undermined near Burger King be fixed immediately.
Comcast: Jay didn’t show.
AT&T: No one from
AT&T made it today.
Water Dept.: At the start of
the meeting today, a 2” water line had been hit by a subcontractor at the
intersection of Main & Colfax. Ed
didn’t have any report of damage yet, but he did have a crew dispatched to the
location immediately. Rieth-Riley
reminded Ed that there is a 6” line that needs a valve relocate at the Chippewa
roundabout. Ed will try to get a crew to
this location sometime next week.
Transpo: Michael from Transpo didn’t show this week, but Tony did
say that work on the temporary drive for the Transpo lot is scheduled to occur
next week.
Metronet: Ben wasn’t at the meeting today.
MCI : Quentin didn’t show
today.
INDOT: INDOT didn’t have any
questions or concerns.
Stakeholder
Questions:
Memorial Hospital: Larry mentioned that the sidewalks on the SE
corner of Bartlett & Michigan near the Blair Warner Center still need to be
backfilled to prevent pedestrian injury.
Indiana Earth said they would take care of this. Tony is planning to begin some sidewalk
tie-ins in the Bartlett area in the next two weeks.
JMS Building: The Washington
Street side of the vault is scheduled to be opened the week of July 11th
so that contractors can begin working on this side. We are still waiting on AT&T to contact
about when they plan to relocate their lines.

Submittals (List
at Meeting):
Action Items
1. Concrete joint Sealant City: Scott is
hesitant to price the sealant with a risk factor, so Roger would like to place
some verbiage in the change order to reflect a difference between careless
application of the sealant versus the limitations of machine operation. Roger also would like to know whether or not
it would make a difference if asphalt crumb rubber were used.
2.
Drive
at Saigon/Colfax Structure: An 18 to 20-foot wide approach on Colfax west
of Main Street is required just west of an existing light and fire hydrant. As a result, the existing approach on Main
Street can’t be removed until this new drive is installed. Before Structure Point can put together a
drawing, we are awaiting some topography shots to be done by JPR.
3. Signal
changes 10 intersections/Rieth-Riley prices:
Rieth-Riley submitted the prices to the City and they are still under
review.
4. Brick
Order: Rieth-Riley has placed an order for bricks,
but the order can still be changed if need be.
5. Sign
Structure on Michigan: The
sign structure is needed. Roger has been
in contact with Tony and he noted that Tony will get back with Ben Holden about
clearances.
6.
Marion
change order/prices: Scott resent the Marion change orders/prices last
night and plans to call today to check up.
7.
Bartlett
Change Order/Prices: Scott will
finish this up so that it can be sent over to Chris.

Concerns/Questions:
·
Regarding the Metronet line that was hit on the
west side of the intersection at Main & Jefferson on Thursday (6/30), Mark
from Indiana Earth made it clear that they will no longer be removing around
Fiber Optics lines. It was decided that
from now on, a sawcut will be placed 2 feet away from the marked line on each
side. Indiana Earth will remove around
these sawcuts first, then begin removing from the handholes towards the center
of the intersection. This will require
more time and Mark noted that he plans to file a claim to be compensated for
this time increase.
·
Tony brought to light a concern regarding being
paid for the removals that took place at the intersection of Main & Indiana
Streets. More removals took place than
were required to complete the traffic signal work. Now, new ramps must be placed that are ADA
compliant. The City is willing to pay
for the concrete removals and reconstruction of the intersection in this
instance. In the future, Phil with
Pemberton-Davis will paint out the areas of each intersection that he needs to
be removed so that this problem can be avoided.
